Sustainability Statement

Sustainability is of high importance to society as a whole. The principals behind Sustainability however are not always understood by everybody and even more so, the extent to which simple methods and adjustments can be made to reduce the overall environmental impact of what we do in our lives and what we build.

At W.N.Webb and Associates, we strive to improve our position and reduce our footprint on the environment on a daily basis through applying the following philosophy and practices to our work;

  • Accumulation of information relating to best practices through Professional Development, Short Courses and Seminars.
  • Acknowledgement of other projects that have exhibited Good Practices.
  • Review of materials and discussion with suppliers and manufacturers in an effort to continually use the most effective and economical solutions for projects.
  • Analysis of projects to ensure that,
    1. Orientation is appropriate
    2. Shading is adequate
    3. Controlled Ventilation is utilised where appropriate
    4. Insulation is effective in relation to the climatic zone being considered
    5. Energy Efficiency Reports are carried out, analysed and reviewed
    6. Solar energy is utilised when and where possible in all projects
    7. Natural Gas, if available, is used in lieu of Electricity
    8. The use of Energy Efficient Appliances is encouraged
  • Discussions with our clients concerning the importance of the above aspects is maintained throughout the project.
  • Extension of the sustainability principles to the consideration of other Consultants working on the project including Planning Consultants, Landscape Architects, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Electrical Engineers.
  • Awareness of Building Lifecycle and Total Energy Consumption.
  • An effort to reduce imported services in our office as well as within our projects
  • Encourage Bio-diversity principals within the office philosophy.
  • Review of the Economic considerations of projects, for both long term and short term, to ensure that clients are getting the Optimum Value and Sustainable Outcomes for the project.
  • Uphold, and where possible, exceed the requirements of Building Codes as far as Energy Efficiency is concerned.
